After two rounds of Naval Jelly, a serious applications of paint remover, and about 3 hours of grinding the Brutus is ready for welding! We need to add cross members to the third kettle position, patch some cuts in the frame, finish welding the bottoms of a few of the cross members, and probably add a few support beams just to be safe. After all this thing is going to holding about 500 lbs of boiling water!!!
So late last night John and I both independently found this Brutus 10 (well actually it's more like a Brutus 5) rack on Craigslist...
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/for/3073399122.html It's a little beat up ... will need some welding and a new coat of paint ... but it is a rack! Okay okay... John just reminded me we actually got our start back on 04/15/2012. We made a Hefeweizen from HydroBrew in Oceanside with a wheat malt extract, wheat an vienna malt, Hallertau hops, and White Labs Hefe yeast.
O.G = 1.52 F.G. = 1.17 ABV = 4.6% It finished and was bottled around 04/23/2012. I'll be honest it was just okay... now to step it up and go all grain!! |
